The Life

Learning the Quran as a map of connected branches, with every source shown

The Life is a visual Islamic learning project built around interactive knowledge trees rather than long articles. A learner starts from a broad subject, follows a branch to a specific topic, and sees how it connects to the rest. The first prototype covers Surah Al-Fatihah ayah by ayah, the prophets named in the Quran, and the nations the Quran describes.

Background

The problem

Religious content online is often either a wall of text or an infographic with no sources. For this subject, trust matters more than decoration: every claim needs a source, and translation, Quranic text and interpretation must never be blurred together.

  • Large subjects are hard to get oriented in
  • Many visual explainers don't say where their content comes from
  • Translation and interpretation are often presented as if they were the same thing
  • A graph has to stay readable on a phone and usable with a keyboard

Solution

What we built

A Next.js prototype where each tree has one clear root and expands branch by branch. Selecting a branch opens a detail panel with the Arabic text, the Urdu translation and its source. Content is restricted to agreed sources, Kanzul Iman for translation, and a branch can name an ayah without making any explanatory claim until an approved source is recorded.

  • Surah Al-Fatihah as a tree of seven branches, one per ayah
  • A detail panel with Quranic Arabic, translation and a link to the source
  • A map of the 25 prophets named in the Quran, in conventional narrative order
  • A study map of the nations in the Quran: the messenger, the response and the outcome
  • A clear source and scope note on every map
  • Content stored as data, so adding a node doesn't need new code

Where it stands

  • This is a review prototype. Detailed tafsir is deliberately not included until each entry has been checked against an approved source.
  • Next up are a Seerah timeline and a tree of the Prophet's ﷺ roles, each with its own sources.
